How can I tell if I suffer from diffuse hair loss?

Diffuse hair loss refers to the loss of over 100 hairs per day evenly throughout the scalp and leading to a reduction in hair volume.

Why should diffuse hair loss be treated medically?

Diffuse hair loss can have many causes. But with the right diagnosis and suitable therapy, hair loss can be treated well. Ask your physician or pharmacist how Pantogar® capsules can help you to treat your hair loss effectively.

How do you treat diffuse hair loss?

Diffuse hair loss occurs when the hair growth cycle is disrupted. The aim of treatment must therefore be to restore balance to the growth cycle. This is where Pantogar® capsules come in: Pantogar® capsules contain a unique, highly concentrated active substance complex which actively stops hair loss by increasing the metabolic activity of the hair root. The hair cells are stimulated to form new cells, and the hair returns to the growth phase. Over time this restores the natural ratio between shedding telogen hair and growing anagen hair.

Which triggers can cause diffuse hair loss?

Diffuse hair loss can have many causes. The most common are:
- Stress
- Illness
- Medications
- Hormonal fluctuations
- Age
- Diets and malnutrition
Regardless of the cause, Pantogar® capsules can be used to treat diffuse hair loss with good results.

Is it normal to suddenly experience hair loss after coming off the pill?

On discontinuing oral contraceptives (“the pill”), the estrogen level (female sex hormone) in the body can drop sharply. Similarly to after a birth, this can cause an imbalance in the hair growth cycle and hair can enter the telogen phase too soon. This hair usually falls out 2-3 months later.

Can increased hair loss during the menopause be treated with Pantogar®?

If you have been suffering from diffuse hair loss for a long time, a physician (gynaecologist) should exclude a hormonal cause, and advice on whether treatment with Pantogar® capsules may be useful. Studies prove that Pantogar® capsules increase the anagen rate in women of all age groups. Pantogar® capsules have also been clearly shown to have a positive effect in women after the menopause.

I am at the start of my pregnancy and am noticing increased hair loss. Should I be concerned?

Hair loss usually decreases over the course of the pregnancy, as the rising estrogen level extends the life cycle of hair, so less hair falls out during the pregnancy. If your hair loss does not improve, you should consult your attending physician.

Is there a link between the menstrual cycle and hair loss?

Some women observe a link between their cycle and their hair loss. However, this may be a coincidence. No scientific link between the hair cycle and the hormonal cycle has been established to date.

My scalp was sunburned during the summer and now I notice hair loss. Is there a link?

It is certainly possible that your hair roots were damaged by the sunburn and so a higher number of hairs than normal switch from the growth phase to the resting phase. These hairs then typically fall out after 2-3 months. There may therefore be a link between sunburn and the greater hair loss observed.

Can hair loss result from an iron deficiency?

An iron deficiency affects the whole body and can lead to hair loss and dry, straw-like hair in extreme cases. Treatment of an iron deficiency is a laborious process and involves iron intake to restore the iron reserves in the body to a healthy level.

Studies show that Pantogar® capsules also effectively improve diffuse hair loss independently of the iron serum level without affecting the iron level.

With Pantogar® capsules, you support the natural function of the hair root during this difficult phase. The unique, highly concentrated active substance complex can stop hair loss and allow the healthy hair to grow back.

Thyroid function disruptions – a cause of hair loss?

A link between thyroid dysfunction and hair loss has not yet been scientifically established.

Can chronic functional intestinal diseases lead to hair loss?

This occurs very rarely, when disruptions in the uptake of essential nutritional components lead to severe deficiency symptoms.

Are there medications that trigger hair loss?

Yes, there are. Certain medications or operations using general anaesthetic sometimes result in a disruption of the hair growth cycle. The hair enters the telogen phase early and falls out around 2-4 months later – the hair loss is visible. Unfortunately, the underlying mechanisms are not understood in most cases. As it is often not possible to change the medication, you should discuss taking a medication against hair loss such as Pantogar® capsules with your attending physician.

Can diets or malnutrition lead to hair loss?

In principle, extreme diets can lead to diffuse hair loss. On switching to normal balanced nutrition, the hair would grow back again. Unfortunately, this is not possible in many cases, e.g. where malnutrition is due to a disease. In these cases, it is advisable to discuss using a hair loss remedy, e.g. Pantogar® capsules, with your physician.

Just after the birth of my child, I noticed that my hair loss increased. Is this normal?

Pantogar® capsules are used to treat diffuse hair loss, and is clinically proven to be effective in this indication. After pregnancy, often hair loss occurs due to hormonal changes. However, other causes may be the reason for hair loss. During pregnancy and breastfeeding you should ask your doctor before taking Pantogar® capsules.

Is there such a thing as seasonal hair loss?

There are studies which prove that there is a clear link between the seasons and hair loss. Hair loss of up to 100 hairs per day is completely normal, but there may be seasonal fluctuations in which much more hair falls out temporarily. One current study over 6 years involving more than 800 women has shown that many women experience increased hair loss in July and – to a lesser extent – in April. Possible triggers can only be surmised. However, it is assumed that the increased rate of hair replacement is triggered by the increase in daylight during the longer days in spring and summer.

This seasonal hair loss is no reason for concern and usually lasts only a few weeks. If the hair loss lasts longer, you should consult a physician in order to identify other triggers.

Can hair dyes lead to hair loss in the long run?

If the dyes are used correctly, hair loss will not occur.

Does washing the hair every day damage hair?

Daily hair washing with a mild shampoo is not damaging, but is often unnecessary. If your hair does not quickly become very greasy, there is no need to wash it every day.

Can chlorinated water or swimming caps lead to hair loss?

Neither chlorinated water nor tight swimming caps cause hair loss. If some hair comes off when you remove the cap, these are telogen hairs which would have fallen out anyway. However, chlorinated water together with sun exposure or hair products can damage the structure of very long hair and make it brittle.

Pantogar® capsules are also recommended in this case, as the effect of Pantogar® capsules on hair structure damage has been proven in numerous studies.

Hair loss often affects the mind as well. What helps?

The trigger of the hair loss should always be identified first and a suitable treatment introduced. Taking action often relieves much of the pressure and anxiety. You should also look after yourself as well as possible and ensure that your life does not revolve solely around hair loss. If you still struggle with difficult thoughts, psychological counseling could help. Contact your physician in confidentiality for more information.

What is a trichogram and what can it reveal?

A trichogram is a hair root analysis, assesses current hair loss and is used to make a diagnosis. Around 50 hairs are taken from the scalp in the area affected by hair loss and are examined to see which phases the hair roots are in. This makes it possible to calculate the percentage distribution of growing anagen and shedding telogen hair. The result can be used to estimate the hair loss expected in the coming weeks and months. The trichogram should therefore ideally be performed in the acute hair loss phase.

Can a trichogram also be conducted in phases in which hair loss is less marked?

Of course, in principle, though it will be less meaningful.

Can I wash my hair before a trichogram?

There are differing opinions on this. Many physicians advise their patients not to wash their hair for 5-7 days, but this is not always necessary. A trichogram can also be conducted after a shorter break from washing your hair. However, to achieve a “before-after comparison” and safely assess whether a treatment was successful, it is important to observe an identical break before each trichogram. Therefore, if you did not wash your hair for three days before your first trichogram, you should do the same for any follow-up tests.
