„Hair loss caused by the flu? I couldn’t believe it.“

Last autumn I got a bad flu. I was out of action for two weeks with a fever, headaches and aching limbs. Work and my hobby, riding, were out of the question. But luckily, every flu passes sooner or later. But what followed was hair loss.

At first I thought I was just imagining it. But I was finding more and more hair in my brush, my hair became visibly thinner and it didn’t feel like it used to. I quickly decided to visit my dermatologist, to make sure I wasn’t doing anything wrong. It turned out the hair loss was caused by the flu, which I would never have thought possible. My doctor explained to me that acute infections can cause the hair roots to stop their dividing activity, leading to increased hair loss. This usually only becomes apparent three months after the actual infection. Looking back, I’m glad that I sought professional help right away, because my dermatologist recommended a product that helped me get my hair loss under control again.
