Hair care and styling

Beautiful hair in winter

In winter, the skin and hair are put under a particularly high amount of stress. The cosy, dry warmth indoors and the icy cold outdoors put strain on the hair and cause it to dry out. Flyaway hair or an itchy scalp is often the result.

Hair needs a lot of care in winter if it is to be beautiful and glossy despite the strain it is under.

“Flyaway” hair

Dry heating air, hot blow-drying and contact with synthetic materials in hats and jumpers electrically charge the hair. Our recommendation:

  • Rub a trace of a deep conditioning treatment or hair wax into your hands and apply to the tips of flyaway hair. The tips are weighed down slightly and lie flat without the hairline losing its buoyancy.
  • Special antistatic haircare products and brushes can reduce the static in the hair.
  • To avoid drying out, you should regularly use deep conditioning treatments or leave-in products that moisturize the hair.
  • Cut off dry or brittle ends. So don’t avoid a visit to the hairdresser.
  • Never brush static hair. That will only make it worse. If possible, wear clothes made from natural fibres, like cotton.

Dandruff and itchy scalp

Dandruff is caused by the rejection of old skin cells. This is a normal process. In winter, however, the scalp can dry out more severely because not enough sebum is produced in the cold. The skin becomes brittle and more dandruff loosens. Many people get an itchy scalp. Our tips:

  • Use anti-dandruff shampoos for sensitive skin or especially for itchy scalp.
  • However, if the dandruff is persistent and accompanied by an itchy scalp, you may have eczema, which should be treated. Find a hair specialist near you.

Is there such a thing as seasonal hair loss?

A study examined the relationship between hair loss and season based on trichogram findings in healthy women. The scientists confirmed that hair growth and hair loss are dependent on the season.
